Life is Beautiful

November 30, 2007 by tikalon

I’ve been meaning to blog about my nephew but I can never get myself to do it. Somehow in the middle of it all I just lose it and cry. My nephew is what people nowadays would call a special child. We learned about his condition when he was two and a half years old and his parents had to send him to a special school where his classmates were about ten years older and two times bigger than him. Him being autistic didn’t quite sink it then but as time passed I knew that he wasn’t going to be what I’ve always wanted him to be.

We as a family have reached a point where we’ve accepted him and his condition but not a day goes by that I don’t stop and think about what could have been. When he was born, I could barely look at him because he was too dark and his head was oddly shaped. By the time he was a year old, I could hardly put him down. He was the little brother I’ve always asked for in my prayers. But when I learned the he was autistic, I felt my world crumble. It was like someone took everything I treasured the most in my life. But life goes on for us.

Everytime I’m with him, I never fail to tell him how much I love him and how much he means to me. To say that he makes my life worth living is an understatement because he is my life. Every picture, every phone call, every smile means more to me than anything else in the world. And if ever I find myself wondering why I continue to do what I do everyday, I know in my heart that it is because of him. I hope he understands how much we love him because no words can express how much he means to us. We taught him how to talk, how to sing, how to hold his spoon and fork and how to poop but he has taught us more than that. He taught us how beautiful life can be.

Sampras v Federer

The exhibition match won’t settle the debate over who is the greatest tennis player of all time but I hope it will be just as exciting as their Wimbledon 2001 match.

Halloween Birthday

October 26, 2007 by tikalon

Mom’s 55th birthday is on the 31st and to celebrate it, we’re planning to throw a Halloween bash. And where better to celebrate a Halloween-themed birthday than in Roxas City. Scary, no?

Kimi’s Moment

October 22, 2007 by tikalon

If you’ve read any of my previous posts about Formula 1, you’ll know that I’m not a big Schumacher fan. Nor am I a fan of Ferrari. But I must admit that, for me, Ferrari was the team of the season. With Kimi and Felipe, they have drivers who have mutual respect for each other. That hug between Kimi and Felipe after the Brazilian GP was a sign that, indeed, they are teammates and friends. The same cannot be said when it comes to Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton over at McLaren. To be honest, the hype surrounding Hamilton’s maiden F1 season put me off a bit. Watching F1 races with British F1 pundits who are all fawning over Hamilton just doesn’t seem right to me. I don’t know, I just didn’t buy it. Now McMerc are wishing and hoping that their boy Lewis would win the WDC because of fuel irregularities on the part of BMW and Williams whose drivers (Rosberg, Heidfeld and Kubica) finished ahead of him. Really now, Ron. He choked, pure and simple.

I think it is only fitting that Kimi won his first WDC crown with a team that really works as a team. Ferrari’s fair and equal treatment of their drivers have always been one of their strongest points (think Irvine/Reubens and Schumi). And for a Kimi fan like me who has watched since his Sauber days, the Brazilian GP was indeed a memorable race.

10 Things I Hate

October 11, 2007 by tikalon

10 Things I Hate (The title is a bit off, don’t you think?)

1. Food – Pork. It makes me want to throw up.

2. Fruits – Chico. I find it very icky.

3. Veggies – I can’t hate veggies. But I like carrots the least.

4. People – People who can’t say “thank you”, people who can’t spell and people who brag too much.

5. Event/Situation/Incident – Whenever someone makes fun of my nephew.

6. TV Shows/Movies – TV Show: Marimar (Tagalog); Movie: High School Musical

7. Music – I find heavy metal too loud.

8. Household Chores – Anything that has to do with floor wax.

9. Things around the world – Violence, mediocrity, indifference.

10. Things about myself – I spend too much on things i don’t really need.

May The Force Be With You

Forget about Halo 3, LEGO Star Wars is the one video game I’m looking forward to. The Xbox 360 version is the one I’d probably get but the Wii version seems like a fun way to really get into the game. This game is the ultimate stress buster. It rocks, it really rocks.

What could be more satisfying than blasting LEGO blocks to smithereens and getting into lightsaber duels with other Jedis? Well, other than blasting Jar Jar… I guess, none.

Early Morning Scare

September 2, 2007 by tikalon

As I was getting ready to sleep this morning, I heard an explosion and the sound of breaking glass. Little did I know that the building right behind our house was already burning. The guard woke us and our neighbors up just as the flames were getting stronger and hotter. Because the street where the building was located is too narrow for the firetrucks, the firemen had to park the firetrucks inside our compound. So there we are, staring at the building on fire while posing for pictures and chitchatting.

Funny that the first thing we all saved were our laptops. When the guard woke everyone up, we all came out holding our laptops. Nobody bothered taking their clothes with them but everyone had their laptops with them. Oh technology, how we love thee.
